Former Malawi National Football Team coach, Meke Mwase, finds himself at a professional crossroads following recent developments in his coaching career.

On February 11, 2025, Liberty Football Club, a newly established Malawian team, announced its technical panel, appointing Mwase as the Technical Director and Henry Solomon as the Head Coach.

Just a day later, on February 12, reports emerged that Mwase was set to depart Malawi to assume the position of Head Coach at Mbabane Highlanders Football Club in Eswatini.

This rapid succession of appointments has led to confusion and speculation regarding Mwase’s professional commitments and future plans.

Mwase’s simultaneous association with two clubs in different countries presents a complex situation. The overlapping timelines and responsibilities raise questions about his ability to fulfill commitments to both Liberty FC and Mbabane Highlanders.

As of now, Mwase has not publicly addressed this dual engagement, leaving stakeholders and fans eager for clarification on his professional trajectory.

Mwase, a former defender for clubs like Jomo Cosmos and Big Bullets, transitioned into coaching after his playing career.

In April 2019, he was appointed as the caretaker manager of the Malawi national football team, the Flames, leading them to the final of the Cosafa Plate. Impressed by his performance, the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) appointed him as the permanent head coach in June 2019. He served in this role until 2021.

In May 2024, Mwase took on the role of interim head coach for Mighty Mukuru Wanderers following the resignation of Nsazurwimo Ramadhan. His leadership led to a series of commendable performances, culminating in a decisive 10-0 victory over Baka City in September 2024. This success prompted the club to confirm him as the permanent head coach.

However, in November 2024, Mwase’s tenure with Wanderers took an unexpected turn. Reports indicated that he had been absent from his duties since November 4, leading the club to terminate his contract on November 14 due to unexplained absence.

Liberty FC has since scheduled open trials for player recruitment at Kamuzu Stadium from February 18 to 28, and is inviting aspirants to show up and expose their talents.
