DPP is a tragedy

Opposition Democratic Party (DPP) is Malawi’s biggest misfortune. They are violent. Incompetent. Vulgar. Corrupt and they take Malawians for fools.

Often times, we want to absorb blame on behalf of leaders, buy the same cannot be said about DPP leader Arthur Peter Mutharika.

He is the Godfather of violence in DPP.

As all Godfathers, hiding behind his dark glasses, Mutharika has mentored his subjects well on issues violence; Long before anyone else in DPP started propagating violence, Mutharika threatened the opposition and declared ‘I will come down on you like a ton of bricks’…we can only imagine what a ton of bricks is capable of doing when rained down on a human.

Mutharika is vulgar and lacks every trait of a statesman. During a national tragedy, when Malawi declared a state of emergency, president Chakwera appointed former presidents Mr Muluzi, Mrs Joyce Banda and Mutharika to head the rebuilding efforts. This was not political and yet, Mutharika was a no show.

It should be noted on the other hand that President Chakwera has warmed up to his predecessor making several attempts to reconcile with Mutharika, once travelling all the way to Mangochi for a courtesy visit with the former president.

Mutharika has a strange sense of entitlement. He believes he is anointed to lead Malawi. And that only him has the ‘intellect’ and ‘wisdom’ to do so.

That’s why, he and his cabal were willing to violate the constitution just so he ascends to power, when former president Bingu wa Mutharika had died, and the constitution was favouring the then beleaguered Vice President to become the next head of state.

Mutharika has contempt for Malawian Courts and the rule of law. To this day, Mutharika remains of the view that the nullification of the fraudulent 2019 election was a Judicial Coup. This despite that this ruling was reached at by the High Court, and later upheld by the Supreme Court of the land.

Peter Mutharika remains of the view that 50+ Malawians were wrong to have booted him and his sinister cabal out that he can go at a rally and mock people that ‘mwakhaulatu, muzabwlezanso zautsiru zija?’

What’s the future of a country whose head of state connives with crooked businessmen to abuse presidential privileges to corruptly import mega tons of cement with no regard to the local businesses and impact on Forex?

It’s therefore not surprising that all DPP cadres do is spread messages of hate and violence at their rallies. All Pythius Hiwa A.K.A Norman Chisale speeches are laced with threats, warnings to policemen and all those proffessionals who have refused to be intimidated by him. He has been so blatant as to brandish a firearm at a political rally.

Chisale brutality is well documented. He has little patience with those who cross his path. Issa Njauju learned this the hard way.

Chisale accumulated untold worth under Mutharika, all these while his benefactor looked the other way as if all was well.

Two district governors propagated murder of MCP followers. Answering to this call, one MCP follower was murdered.

DPP Councilor Jomo Osman once slapped someone in Limbe for wearing an MCP branded cloth.

Why has the DPP and indeed NEC remained nonchalant about these well documented instances? We can safely conclude that they endorsed this. Their leader is complicit to this wayward behavior.

Malawians should be very careful what you wish for.
